SeaDoc Monthly Screening: WTO '99

  • NW Film Forum 1515 12th Avenue Seattle, WA, 98122 United States (map)

This is a new feature doc directed by Seattle filmmaker Ian Bell about the WTO protests in '99. The film is currently on the festival circuit (TrueFalse, Full Frame, IDFA, DocNYC, and just won best documentary at New Orleans FF etc) ; It's a pretty remarkable feat of archival filmmaking, created from hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage from police cameras, news cameras, personal camcorders, etc that rewrites the narrative of the protests from the one told by the media back in 1999. The film has been written up in Deadline, Filmmaker Magazine, Roger Ebert, and was just nominated for best archival doc by the Critics Choice Awards etc. After the screening there will be an celebratory gathering down the street at Lost Lake.
